We have babies!!!! And one of our first major losses.

Our first kidding!!! Snowball gave birth to triplets without showing any signs that she was in labor! Shannon heard Oliver barking, so he went outside to see what was going on. He found Oliver standing over a tiny baby goat, trying to “protect it” from Snowball as she was trying to clean up her newborn. Once Oliver was moved out of the pen, Snowball was able to cleanup Peanut, and then proceeded to give birth to two more babies. While we didn’t get to watch the first baby being born, we experienced the second and third babies being delivered. What an exciting night!

Two days later, we came home from work to find Sofia cleaning up TWINS! She had just given birth to a doe and a billy, both beautiful and solid white.

Cookie will be the last to kid. She is still impatiently waiting for the arrival of her babies.

I had to come back to this post with a very sad and unfortunate update: during Cookie’s labor, we lost her and her twins. Her firstborn decided to come while we were at work, and instead of coming out front legs first as it should have, it tried to come head first and got stuck. Shannon got home while it was still alive, and then I arrived shortly after him. We gloved up, lubed up, even called the neighbors to help, and we all took turns trying to pull the baby, but were unable to successfully pull it out. Our vet came out; he even had trouble and had to surgically remove the fetus. It has passed by this point, and then during the process, we lost Cookie and her second baby as well. It was a very long night for all of us. We are so thankful for our neighbors who came to assist, and for our vet who drove an hour out to help and did everything he could.
