Cattle
At this time, we are just getting started with our cattle. We originally wanted Hereford cattle to go along with our Hereford pigs, and I’m sure we will eventually get there, but as usual, God’s plans tend to be different than our plans. David was our first calf, a black baldy born and orphaned in south Louisiana around November 1, 2022. We found David when he was about three to four weeks old through an online add, traveled over a hour to pick him up and carried him home in the back of our old 1997 Ford F150 pickup. David was stressed from the trip and did not want anything to do with drinking his bottle at first. Poor baby went almost four whole days without eating or drinking, we though we were going to lose him. Thankfully, with lots of research and help from the awesome staff at our local feed store, we had David on the mend within a few days. Once he started eating, his system was so stressed that he got scours. Scours are no fun and can actually kill a calf, so I was back to my research and the feed store for help, and thankfully we had him back to normal within a few more days. Raising bottle babies sounded fun at first, but man that’s alot of work and worrying.
